The sales manager of Nintendo UK David Yates, has revealed that the expected 3DS is about to cross the finish line of the 100,000 pre-orders. While not revealing the actual data related to this specific aspect, Yates said that the little console in 3D Kyoto is already the console with the largest number of registered pre-orders so far.
The marketing director of the British section of Nintendo, Dawn Paine, however, raises an interesting question about some numbers:
I doubt you can underestimate the hunger of people for a new technology – benefits that we expect to derive from the quality of the product. The number of pre-orders are there to witness it.
With these considerations, Paine raises a seemingly obvious, but many seem to, precisely, underestimated. When you are too passionate on the amount or quality of titles available at launch and the like, it seems you do not want to take into account that the average buyer (not necessarily “gamer”) may first be attracted by its new technology. And this figure does not cover certain substantive arguments, representing a simple observation.
